Parking pass commemorates park system's 125th anniversary
Minnehaha Falls, the scenic urban waterfall that inspired New England poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's "Song of Hiawatha," is the featured image on the Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board's 2008 patron parking pass.
The board chose an image of the 53-foot waterfall to commemorate the park system's 125th anniversary.
The Patron Pass allows year round parking in lots marked "Patron Pass" at the city's regional parks at Boom Island, Cedar Lake, Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet, Lake Nokomis, Minnehaha Park, Wirth Quaking Bog and the Eloise Butler Wildflower and Bird Sanctuary.
The pass also allows visitors to use lots at any park that requires a fee without having to pay.
The passes retail for $27 for the first vehicle and $10 to $15 for a second vehicle. People 62 and older can get the passes for $20 and $7 to $10 for a second vehicle. Proceeds are used for park maintenance.
Patron passes are sold in person at the park board's headquarters, 2117 W. River Rd., Lyndale Park Farmstead, 3900 Bryant Av. S., and by telephone at 612-230-6400.
Application forms also are available online at www.minneapolisparks.org.
