Mankato police kill man wielding broken glass

Last update: December 31, 2007 - 11:07 PM

MANKATO - Police shot and killed a naked man who apparently broke into an apartment and threatened officers with broken glass.

Police said they were called by two residents who came home to find Richard Thomas Vosburgh, 26, naked and damaging things.

The Mankato Free Press reported that Vosburgh lived downstairs from the college-age women and that the women were able to lock themselves in a room and use a cell phone to call 911.

Officers tried to subdue the man and were injured.

Mankato Department of Public Safety Director Jerry Huettl said the officers acted appropriately. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension was investigating.
