A visitation for John Weston Faas, a Minneapolis native and a Navy SEAL who was killed Aug. 6, will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in St. Paul. Services will be at noon Monday at Fort Snelling Chapel on Historic Fort Road, and burial will be at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Snelling's grave site shelter. A reception will follow at Minnehaha Academy North Campus, 3100 West River Parkway in Minneapolis.
Faas, 31, of Virginia Beach, Va., was among 30 U.S. troops, including 22 SEALS, who were killed when their CH-47 Chinook helicopter was shot down in Afghanistan. Faas was a 1998 graduate of Minnehaha Academy, where he was co-valedictorian of his class and the captain and quarterback of the football team.
He is survived by his parents, Gretchen and Robert Faas of Minneapolis; aunts, uncles and cousins.
