Five other flawed bridges

Last update: December 15, 2007 - 8:13 PM

In addition to the Hastings Bridge, Minnesota has at least five other important bridges -- three that are fracture-critical -- with serious deficiencies, MnDOT inspection records show:

• The fracture-critical Lafayette Bridge (Hwy. 52) in St. Paul, crossing the Mississippi River.

• The Cayuga Bridge (Interstate 35E) in St. Paul, over Cayuga Street.

• The fracture-critical Dresbach Bridge (Interstate 90) over the Mississippi outside of La Crescent.

• The fracture-critical Stillwater Lift Bridge, spanning the St. Croix River. It also is posted for restricted loads.

• The Hwy. 24 bridge over the north fork of the Crow River in Meeker County, northeast of Litchfield.
