An in-your-face curbside video showing how animals make their way from the slaughterhouse to America's menus is scheduled to roll Friday as lunchtime patrons stroll by in downtown Minneapolis.
Plans call for the "Farm to Fridge" tour truck to park at 7th Street and Nicollet Mall from 11 a.m. to noon, with billboard-sized screens illustrating how hogs, cattle and poultry are treated on factory farms.
The Minneapolis stop is part of a 40-city tour organized by Mercy For Animals, a Chicago-based animal rights group.
Later Friday, the truck moves to Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue -- the axis of Uptown's dining and entertainment district -- for another hour of exposure starting at 8:45 p.m.
Mercy For Animals' Executive Director Nathan Runkle said the tour's mission is to confront the public about "the intensive confinement, abusive handling, painful mutilations, careless neglect and merciless slaughter" of billions of animals by the food industry.
The 12-minute video is narrated by Oscar nominee James Cromwell, a vegan and animal-rights activist.
