The Stillwater Lift Bridge, a major commuter link over the St. Croix River, closed at 9 a.m. Friday as the morning rush hour wrapped up.

The St. Croix is expected to rise above flood stage -- 87 feet -- Sunday morning and crest at 87.7 feet sometime Wednesday afternoon.

Traffic managers are suggesting that motorists who typically cross the 80-year-old lift bridge head south to the Interstate 94 Bridge connecting the east metro with Hudson, Wis.
