Two western Minnesota teens are dead after a shooting at a home Monday evening. At least one shooting was self-inflicted, according to Otter Tail County sheriff's officials.

A 16-year-old girl, a sophomore at Perham High School whose name was not released, was found dead in the home near Amor after the shooting was reported about 9 p.m. Monday. A 17-year-old boy, Dylan Cox, was taken to Sanford Hospital in Fargo, where he died Tuesday, according to hospital spokeswoman Andrea Voorhees.

Sheriff's officials said "this incident is isolated to this residence, and there is no threat to the community at large." No arrests were made.

Cox was a student at the high school "for a while," said Perham-Dent School District Superintendent Tamara Uselman.

In response to the shooting, officials put all five schools in the district on lockdown Tuesday, meaning students were confined to buildings and visitors were barred.

Uselman said the lockdown was to ensure safety for "students in a fragile emotional state. ... We are trying to keep them from disappearing someplace."

Uselman added that administrators also "had reason to think that [news media] would be coming here."

In what Uselman described as an unrelated incident, "a terroristic threat" was contained in a voice-mail message left Tuesday morning at the district's Prairie Wind Middle School.

"There is no reason to believe that this threat is related to the situation last night," the superintendent said. She declined to describe the message in detail, other than to say it was "somewhat garbled."
