Girl, 16, drives into ditch near Mankato while trying to text

A 16-year-old driver who tried to send a text message while driving Monday morning ended up in a ditch west of Mankato, Minn., according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Madelia, Minn., girl was typing a text message on her cell phone when she drifted onto the shoulder of Highway 60 around 11 a.m., according to the Minnesota State Patrol. She overcorrected and crossed four lanes of traffic, rolling her car into the ditch beside the opposite lanes of traffic.

The girl, whose name has not been released, was taken to Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato and treated for minor injuries, the patrol said.
