Type 3 van or passenger vehicle driver requirements:
A valid passenger vehicle drivers license.
School bus drivers requirements include:
A commercial drivers license that subjects driver to federal requirements including preemployment and random drug and alcohol checks.
A school bus drivers endorsement with stipulations that include having no felony convictions and taking continuing education courses, and passing an annual physical examination.
Driver record and criminal background checks. (Criminal records are rechecked by the state every four years when the bus drivers license is renewed.)
Zero tolerance of drug or alcohol use on duty. (Driver loses license for a year if any alcohol is found in system. A second offense invalidates license for life.)
Training that includes how to assist special needs students and effective bus evacuation.
