Protection against flood damage is available to nearly all Minnesotans.
Who is eligible?
About 92 percent of Minnesotans can buy federal flood insurance. To qualify, a resident must live in an area that conforms to federal land zoning and other flood-control requirements.
Policies are sold for homes, apartments and businesses, and residential condominium associations.
What does it cover?
Flood insurance covers flood damage to property, including structural damage, furnace, water heater, flood debris clean-up, carpeting. You also can buy coverage for household possessions.
Annual premiums vary widely, from about $300 for property well away from flood-prone areas to more than $1,000 for property at higher risk.
