The North Central River Forecast Center, an arm of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration based in Chanhassen, has calculated the chances of "major flooding" along Minnesota rivers between now and May 1. "Major flooding" means road and bridge closings, temporary dikes, sewer backups and other threats to low-lying homes and businesses.
