St. Louis County authorities are investigating an accident in which a man was shot by a member of his own hunting party.

The victim, a 62-year-old man from Aurora, Minn., was shot just after 3 p.m. in White Township, which is about 1½ miles from Biwabik, said Sgt. Jason Akerson of the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Virginia Regional Medical Center and later air lifted to St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth.

The extent of his injuries was not known Monday morning.

Akerson said "the shooting appears accidental at this point," but the incident remains under investigation.
