2 injured victims of crash in Swan River not discovered until the next morning

Last update: September 29, 2007 - 9:45 PM

Two Twin Cities teenagers were thrown from their vehicle late Friday in Itasca County in a rollover accident that remained undiscovered until 7 a.m. Saturday, the Minnesota State Patrol reported.

John S. Xiong, 18, of St. Paul, was driving a Honda Prelude west on Hwy. 2 near Swan River with his passenger, Bee Vang, also 18, of Newport. Swan River is about 150 miles north of the Twin Cities.

Both were taken to Grand Itasca Hospital in Grand Rapids, but Xiong then was airlifted to St. Mary's Hospital in Duluth with serious injuries. He was listed in good condition Saturday night.

It remains unclear when the rollover occurred. The State Patrol reported that alcohol was detected in both men. Neither was wearing a seat belt.
