A driver was killed and a child in a car safety seat was ejected in a two-car collision this morning on Interstate Hwy. 35E near Yankee Doodle Road in Eagan.

The accident occurred at about 7 a.m. when the driver of a Suzuki Grand Vitara lost control of the vehicle on southbound I-35E, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. The vehicle crossed the median and went into the northbound lanes where it was hit broadside by a Jeep Wrangler.

The driver of the Suzuki was killed. A child in a car seat was thrown from the car. As of about 12:30 p.m. today, there was no new information about the child's condition, a state patrol spokesman said.

The driver of the Jeep, a 40-year-old man from Eagan, had injuries that are not life threatening, the state patrol said.

The Suzuki was totaled. The Jeep had severe damage.

An accident Sunday near Nisswa, Minn., killed two people.

The Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department says a 51-year-old man and his 52-year-old wife were traveling on County Road 18 east of Nisswa yesterday when their pickup left the road and hit a tree.

The names of the victims weren't immediately released.
