Travelers heading west on County Road 42, east of Cedar Avenue in Apple Valley, should take a different route through the intersection until midday tomorrow, a spokesman for Dakota County says.
The intersection is one of the busiest in the metro area. Dakota County staff estimate more than 70,000 vehicles travel through that intersection each day, Timothy Mozey said in a news release.
At 8 a.m. today, a dump truck loaded with sand, with the box elevated, was westbound on County Road 42 at the Cedar Avenue intersection.
The top of the dump truck box hit the signal mast arm that extends over County Road 42. The crash severed the the pole supporting the mast arm and caused the mast arm to fall onto a vehicle, Mozey said.
No serious injuries were reported.
All westbound traffic on County Road 42 east of Cedar is being detoured until the signal is replaced. The traffic signals are functioning to direct traffic in the other three directions through the intersection of County Road 42 and Cedar Avenue.
Both the support pole and mast arm need to be replaced and reconnected to the traffic control system, which should be accomplished by midday Wednesday, Mozey said.
