ALONG THE GUNFLINT TRAIL, Minn. (AP) — The Cavity Lake Fire in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area is almost out.

Fire officials today declared the fire 95 percent contained and said they're turning over management of the fire to a smaller group of professionals.

The fire is now showing very little activity, with just a few residual hotspots.

The fire has burned around 39 square miles of land to varying degrees, and the fight to stop it has cost more than $10 million since lightning ignited the blaze July 14th.
