35W bridge teams get a few extra days

Last update: August 29, 2007 - 4:10 PM

Construction teams vying for the contract to design and build the new Interstate 35W bridge will get a few extra days to put their proposals together. State transportation officials altered the timeline after changing the scope of the project with respect to rail lines around the site.

In a statement released Tuesday, MnDOT announced that technical proposals will be due Sept. 14 instead of Sept. 10, and price proposals will be due Sept. 18 instead of Sept. 13. Bid letting will happen Sept. 19 at 3 p.m., instead of Sept. 14.

The agency said it plans to award the project by the end of September, as originally scheduled.

Spokesman Kevin Gutknecht said the scope of the project was changed "a little bit," but didn't give specifics.

"We're in discussions with the University of Minnesota about some rail facilities that are in and around the bridge site," he said. "Based on those discussions and some changes we were able to make in the plan, they changed the scope of the project, so we wanted to give the four companies ... time to take a look at the change in the scope and evaluate it and build it into their proposals."
