Municipal wells supplying drinking water to Rosemount and Inver Grove Heights do not contain a contaminant that has been detected in six other cities in Washington and Dakota counties, state health officials said Wednesday.
The state tested the cities' water last week after PFBA, a chemical once manufactured by 3M, was discovered in the drinking-water supplies of Woodbury, St. Paul Park, Cottage Grove, Newport, South St. Paul and Hastings. Doug Schultz, a spokesman for the Minnesota Department of Health, said the tests showed no traces of the chemical in a city well in northeastern Rosemount and in three city wells in eastern Inver Grove Heights. "Those cities can rest assured that they don't have the chemical in their water right now," Schultz said. The Health Department is also testing a number of private wells in southern Washington County, he said, as investigators try to determine the outer boundaries of the contamination.
