An Amber Alert was issued Monday night after a man apparently took his 14-year-old daughter from her home in Inver Grove Heights.

The girl's mother told police that the father, a convicted sex offender, took their daughter between 2:45 and 3:50 p.m.

Stephen M. Michuda, 34, does not have custody of the girl, Deidre J. Michuda, and there is a court order prohibiting him from having unsupervised contact with her, police said.

The two left in a green 1998 Chevrolet Ventura minivan with Minnesota license plate GUB 014. The vehicle has a dent in the driver's-side door. Lt. Jerry Salmey of Inver Grove Heights police said the suspect’s van was found this morning after 10:30 a.m. in South St. Paul. Police were going over it for any evidence.

Stephen Michuda, 34, is white, 5-feet-7 and 180 pounds with blue eyes, shaved short brown hair with a goatee and he was possibly wearing a green Army-type jacket.

Deidre Michuda is Asian and white, 5-feet-2 and 110 pounds, with brown eyes, long dark brown hair. She was possibly wearing a dark blue sweat shirt with "JMS Marching Band" on the front and "Michuda" on the back, jeans, black tennis shoes and was carrying a green backpack.

Anyone who sees the suspect or the vehicle is asked to call 911. Anyone with information may call 651-437-4211. That line is answered 24 hours a day, or call 651-450-2525 during normal business hours.

Under an Amber Alert, the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension releases information about suspected kidnappings of children 17 or younger to the news media, law enforcement agencies and businesses.
