Abbigail and Isabelle Carlsen, the conjoined twins who were separated in a day-long surgery Friday at the Mayo Clinic, are doing well today after what the clinic called an "uneventful night."

Their parents, Jesse and Amy Carlsen, of Fargo, N.D., remained at the girls' bedsides through the night at the clinic in Rochester.

The 5-month-old babies remain in intensive care under sedation, as planned, and are breathing with the assistance of ventilators. Their vital signs are stable.

In a press statement, their parents said, "Thank you for your support and prayers. It's amazing how our girls have touched so many people's lives. We are grateful for the outstanding medical care our daughters are receiving and for the team we are lucky enough to have."

Jesse Carlsen wrote that the twins "had a good night with no problems.'' He said he and their mother talked to Abby "and her legs started to stir so I know she heard us.

"Belle was getting an ultrasound to check things out and we were told everything looked good on both girls,'' he added.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
