Baby born to woman critically injured on bridge, report says

Last update: August 6, 2007 - 12:21 PM

A 34-year-old pregnant woman injured during Wednesday’s bridge collapse has given birth to a healthy boy at Hennepin County Medical Center, according to ABC News.

Quoting an unnamed source on its Web site, ABC said the woman is listed in critical condition and underwent an emergency Caesarean section.

“It was very difficult, but they both made it through, which is really amazing,” a hospital staffer told ABC. “It was a very intense experience, very touching, for all of us. In this job, I’ve seen it all, but it’s hard to even talk about this woman without getting choked up.”

Tom Hayes, a spokesman for Hennepin County Medical Center, refused to comment on an ABC news report that a 34-year-old woman in critical condition had given birth to a healthy boy.

“I just can’t confirm anything,” he said today.
