Luna Yang: So many choices

Last update: April 28, 2007 - 4:47 PM

Luna Yang

Luna, a senior at Wayzata High School, has so many options she isn't sure where to turn.

Last week, she was thinking Stanford. The week before, it was Harvard vs. the University of Pennsylvania.

Luna, who had a perfect SAT score, also was admitted to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Duke, Washington University in St. Louis, and the universities of Chicago, Minnesota and Michigan. She was wait-listed at Yale.

Luna visited UPenn two weeks ago and was impressed with a program that allows a small number of highly motivated students to earn a business degree and an engineering degree in four years. But she didn't care for Philadelphia, and she wondered whether the intensity of the program would stifle her college experience. Is she really sure, at age 18, what she wants to do with her life?

For exploring other options, Harvard or Stanford might be better for her, she reasoned.

"Every day the deadline creeps closer," Luna said. "I didn't think it would be that stressful."

She has until Tuesday to make a decision.
