Staying safe

Last update: October 28, 2007 - 9:54 PM

STAYING SAFE

There are a few simple measures that can help you stay safe when using sites like Craigslist or Kwikswap.

• Use caution when setting up a meeting place. The best spots are public places where there are a lot of people around -- malls, shopping centers, libraries, churches, schools.

• If you can't meet in a public place, take someone with you.

• Take your cell phone to any such meeting.

• Don't let anyone pick up or drop off anything at your home.

• Don't post your address, phone number or meeting place online. Use the private e-mail of the person you're doing the transaction with after making contact.

• Report suspicious postings or activity to site moderators.

• If anything about a transaction feels suspicious, don't undertake it.
