Proposed restrictions

Last update: October 4, 2007 - 10:18 PM

Key specifics on proposed restrictions on replica guns to be voted on today by the Minneapolis City Council at its 9:30 a.m. meeting in room 319 of City Hall:

• Facsimile firearms are defined as a replica that mostly duplicates a real firearm or could be perceived to be real. But brightly colored or translucent fakes with a blaze-orange muzzle extension and without a laser pointer would be allowed.

• Carrying a facsimile gun in a public place or in a vehicle is prohibited, unless it is carried in a secured container or the trunk of a vehicle. Possession is also prohibited in a public place or room with illegal drugs.

• Exemptions included: people in the facsimile firearm business or law-enforcement officers.
