About full-body scanners

  • Updated: September 22, 2010 - 9:57 PM

• MSP's first machine began scanning passengers Wednesday.

• The TSA officer viewing the image is remotely located in a secure room and never sees the passenger. That officer communicates via wireless headset to the checkpoint.

• The screening is optional; passengers can choose the old technology, including a physical pat-down.

• In the United States, 224 scanners are at 56 airports; more are on the way.
