Well, everybody wanted to move back outside, and here we are, outside, in November-like weather.
Well, not everybody. I'm in the enclosed, warm press box. There was a skim of snow on the field this morning, one that had to be cleaned off. There was still a bit of frost on the field, but it's going away as the sun moves across the field.
Actually, I think it's a nice day for the players. I have to say, it's good to see some of the players out there laughing off the cold and going sans long sleeves, guys like Kyle Theret, Nick Tow-Arnett and Nate Triplett, to name a few. That's laughing at the weather, Bud Grant style.
So, what about this game? I picked the Gophers to win 21-17. I still like the margin, but I'm thinking both teams might score a few more points than that.
It's my opinion that the Gophers, on offense, have to figure out what they are. What I mean by that is, what is their offensive personality? The motto this year has been pound the rock, which is more a reference to being a physical team than being on that just runs the ball. But have they played a physical game consistently this season? It remains to be seen whether the offensive line is good enough, as a unit, to run the ball well consistently this season. But the team has got to be more physical at the point of attack.
Purdue is a team the Gophers should be able to run against. If they can run, the passing game will open and Eric Decker could have a great day. I also see special teams playing a big roll in this game.
That's about it. Have a good day and stay warm.
