Be back with updates soon. Gotta get in the clubhouse before it closes.
UPDATES: O.K. back in the pressbox.
My computer crashed Sunday night. Had to send Joe C. to Port Charlotte to cover the Rays game while I dealt with the office about a replacement. It stinks not having a computer, Spent the day at the grocery store, washing clothes and cleaning Strib Headquarters. Ugh. Got my replacement this morning. Getting to know Windows 7 after years with XP.
Denard Span went through a fill pre-game workout on Tuesday and said he would make a decision about playing on Wednesday at the end of the day. ``I'm not going to let this hold me back.'' he said. Span said his neck felt better on Tuesday.
Since I didn't have a computer yesterday, I went over and watched a few innings of camp games on the minor league side. Saw a handful of the Twins top prospects. The spring schedule for minor leaguers begins Wednesday, so there were intrasquad games on Tuesday.
Miguel Sano has the body of the 25 year old man with the face of a 12-year old. Watched him for an inning. So hard to pick up anything in these camp games. He was first pitch hacking, too.
Eddie Rosario has a very nice lefthanded swing, but he hacked at the first two pitches he saw.
Max Kepler had a good at-bat and lined a single to the opposite field. Kepler is starting to fill out, and now I can see where those Shawn Green comparisons come from.
Shortstop Niko Goodrum is starting to fill out too. He looked really smooth in the field and was very accurate with the couple throws I saw, Curious to see where he plays this year, since Rosario and Levi Michael are supposed to be the middle infield at Beloit.
DRAFT DOODLES: There's a big college baseball game tonight in Tallahassee, as the Gators play host to Florida State. Gators catcher Mike Zunino, leading his team with a .414 batting average and 7 homers, is considered one of the top five prospects in the upcoming draft.
Florida State is led by outfielder James Ramsey. The Twins selected Ramsey in the 22nd round last season and tried hard to sign him but couldn't.
Ramsey recently was ranked as the 69th best prospect by Baseball America. .In 15 games, Ramsey is batting .468 with 4 homers and 15 RBI. He's walked 20 times for a .643 on base percentage (looks like teams are afraid to pitch to him). So it looks like he's played himself into a higher selection. Remember, the Twins have 5 of the first 75 picks in the draft this year, so the Twins could be looking at him with one of those picks.
It's Zunino vs. Ramsey tonight, and the Twins will be in attendance.
