Tips for making household donations

Last update: March 28, 2008 - 5:19 PM

TIPS FOR MAKING HOUSEHOLD DONATIONS

• Take pictures of items donated for proper documentation for the IRS.

• Only items in good and better condition are eligible for a tax deduction. Items in fair or poor condition can be donated but are not deductible.

• Deductions cannot be made for more than the original price paid for an item. Antiques, for example, should be sold rather than donated to get maximum value.
