Sustainable valentines

Last update: February 9, 2008 - 6:48 PM

SUSTAINABLE VALENTINES

• Buy a single rose for your sweetie instead of a dozen. Take the petals from a second rose and make a path to a desired location, maybe a bubble bath or a pair of wine glasses and truffles.

• Choose soy candles made in the United States instead of wax.

• Send romantic e-mails or text messages throughout the day on the 14th.

• Suggest that each of you create a Valentine card from found materials at home. Keep the message short, sweet and from the heart if you're worried about writer's block.

• Shop for green gifts at local co-ops.

• Ask your neighborhood florist for locally grown roses.
