CLUB DUES

Here are 10 ways to raise cash if you're struggling each month to add to your account:

• Sell a gift card received as a gift. CardAvenue.com, PlasticJungle.com and Swapagift.com allow selling and trading.

• Put part of your tax refund in the Christmas Club.

• Add proceeds from a garage sale.

• Sell items on eBay or Craig'slist.

• Put some of your birthday money in the fund.

• Save 20 to 40 percent on groceries at Aldi.

• Give up an expensive habit for a month -- gourmet coffee or lunch at restaurants.

• Comparison-shop by phone when it's time to renew your auto, home or renter's insurance.

• Extend the time between haircuts by a week or two.

• Buy Mary Hunt's new book, "Debt-Proof the Holidays" ($15, DPL Press), for more tips and inspiration.
