• Bamboo is a tree-like woody grass.

• The largest concentrations are in China and India.

• It can grow more than a foot in one day.

• There are more than 1,000 species.

• It can be harvested in three to seven years vs. 10 to 20 years for most softwoods.

• Bamboo and related industries provide income, food and housing for more than 2.2 billion people worldwide.

• More than 1 billion people worldwide live in bamboo houses.

• Giant pandas can eat 25 different types of bamboo, but they usually eat only the four or five kinds that grow in their home range.
