Focus on local food a tasty tradition

Taste of the past

Last update: October 21, 2009 - 2:43 PM

In an ambitious 1972 effort, Taste staff members traveled the state to search for foods and recipes that make Minnesota towns special. From Grand Marais to Mountain Lake, they visited coffee shops and farms, churches and homes in an effort to reflect Minnesota tastes, from golabki (Polish cabbage rolls) and soybeans to zwieback (a Mennonite sweet roll) and mojakka (Finnish stew).

The statewide search for good food has been a tradition that continues today in Taste.
