Marty Richie isn't about to throw in the towel.

Despite the explosion that destroyed his food truck — Motley Crews Heavy Metal Grill — and rocked his Lakeville neighborhood March 6, Richie is busy with plans to open a brick-and-mortar restaurant in downtown Lakeville come June 1.

Motley Crews Heavy Metal Grill, the restaurant, will take over half of the old Ace Hardware building at 20841 Holyoke Av.; Angry Inch Brewing will be in the other half.

"Lakeville residents have been so supportive of this," Richie said. "They're just so beside themselves to get us there. There's so much demand. They really want this place to happen."

Equipment has been ordered and is arriving. The liquor license is underway — Richie will make an appearance at the City Council meeting on April 6, his 46th birthday.

The restaurant will keep the building's industrial look, with a 25-by-15-foot stainless steel bar as its focal point. There will be booths and high-top tables, a 70-inch TV and a patio on the south side to catch the sun.

"A family-friendly atmosphere is what we're looking for," he said. "I'm not going to fill it with 35 TVs."

The menu will expand on the food truck's grub: beef and chicken Philly sandwiches, a brat burger, a Hawaiian burger, Buffalo-style shrimp and wings. On the wish list is a brick oven for pizza.

Richie spent 15 years in restaurant kitchens and 15 years in sales and marketing.

Owning a restaurant never really figured into his plans. But about a year ago, he decided maybe the time was right.

He's excited, too, about the Angry Inch Brewery's taproom that will open next door, hopefully in early July. The taproom won't serve food, but will let customers bring over their meals from the restaurant.

What caused the Motley Crews Heavy Metal Grill truck to explode still isn't known. The investigation could take weeks, authorities have said.

Richie has a lot on his mind, but right now he's headed out to pick up a prep table for the restaurant.
