Let's crunch the James Beard award numbers, shall we?

Since 2003, when Roger Johnsson of the former Aquavit became the first Minnesota chef to be nominated for a James Beard Foundation award, nearly 50 Twin Cities chefs, pastry chefs, restaurants, restaurateurs and industry professionals have been recognized — as semifinalists, nominees and winners — at the annual so-called "Oscars of the food world."

Following last week's announcement of the foundation's 2015 chef and restaurant semifinalists, here's a guide to the Minnesotans who have had the coveted James Beard label, in one way or another, attached to their résumés:

Tim McKee and La Belle Vie are probably the state's most James Beard-iest names. McKee is a three-time Best Chef: Midwest nominee (2007, 2008, 2009) and won the award in 2009. He is a two-time semifinalist in Outstanding Chef (2012, 2013). As for La Belle Vie, the restaurant is a two-time Outstanding Restaurant semifinalist (2011, 2015), a three-time Outstanding Wine Service semifinalist (2008, 2009, 2010), a semifinalist in Outstanding Service (2011) and a semifinalist in Outstanding Bar Program (2012).

Alex Roberts of Restaurant Alma is a four-time Best Chef: Midwest nominee (2007, 2008, 2009, 2010) and won the award in 2010. Restaurant Alma is an Outstanding Restaurant semifinalist (2012) and is a two-time Outstanding Service semifinalist (2014, 2015).

Isaac Becker of 112 Eatery is a four-time Best Chef: Midwest nominee (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011) and won the award in 2011. He is an Outstanding Chef semifinalist (2014). Becker's Bar La Grassa is a Best New Restaurant semifinalist (2010).

Gavin Kaysen of Spoon and Stable won the Rising Star Chef of the Year award (2008) when he was at Cafe Boulud in New York City. Spoon and Stable is a Best New Restaurant semifinalist (2015).

Michelle Gayer of the Salty Tart is a two-time Outstanding Pastry Chef nominee (2002, when she was at Charlie Trotter's in Chicago, and 2010, for her work at the Salty Tart). She is also a two-time semifinalist (2011 and 2012) in the same category. In addition, Gayer is a two-time nominee for Best Chef: Midwest (2013 and 2014), and a semifinalist (2015) in the same category.

Lenny Russo of Heartland Restaurant is a four-time Best Chef: Midwest nominee (2010, 2011, 2012, 2014) and is a four-time semifinalist (2008, 2009, 2013, 2015) in the same category.

Lucia Watson of Lucia's Restaurant is a three-time Best Chef: Midwest nominee (2004, 2005, 2006). Lucia's Restaurant is a three-time Outstanding Restaurant semifinalist (2008, 2009, 2013). Watson sold the restaurant in December.

Paul Berglund of the Bachelor Farmer is a Best Chef: Midwest nominee (2014) and a semifinalist (2015) in the same category. The Bachelor Farmer is a Best New Restaurant semifinalist (2012) and Marvel Bar is a two-time Outstanding Bar Program semifinalist (2013, 2014).

Jack Riebel is a Best Chef: Midwest nominee (2013) when he was at Butcher & the Boar, and the restaurant is a Best New Restaurant semifinalist (2013). Riebel is now working to open Il Foro and the Lexington.

Roger Johnsson is a Best Chef: Midwest nominee (2003) from when he was at the former Aquavit. Johnsson is now cooking in Scandinavia.

Sameh Wadi of Saffron Restaurant & Lounge is a five-time semifinalist for Rising Star Chef of the Year (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012). He is also a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2013).

Richard D'Amico and Larry D'Amico, co-owners of Cafe Lurcat and Bar Lurcat, Masa and other properties, are five-time semifinalists (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) in Outstanding Restaurateur.

Doug Flicker of Piccolo is a five-time Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). Piccolo is a Best New Restaurant semifinalist (2011).

Mike Brown and James Winberg of Travail Kitchen and Amusements are three-time Best Chef: Midwest semifinalists (2012, 2013, 2015), and co-chef Bob Gerken is a two-time semifinalist (2013, 2015) in the same category.

Steven Brown of Tilia is a three-time Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2012, 2013, 2014).

Eric Seed of Haus Alpenz, an Edina-based liquor importer, is a three-time semifinalist in Outstanding Wine, Spirits, and Beer Professional (2013, 2014, 2015).

Russell Klein of Meritage is a three-time Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2011, 2012, 2015).

Steve Horton of Rustica is a semifinalist in Outstanding Pastry Chef (2013, 2014) and a semifinalist in Outstanding Baker (2015).

Stewart Woodman is a three-time Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2009, 2010, 2012) from when he was at the former Heidi's. Woodman is now at Workshop at Union.

Kim Bartmann, owner of Bryant-Lake Bowl, Barbette and other properties, is a two-time semifinalist in Outstanding Restaurateur (2013, 2015).

Jamie Malone is a semifinalist in Rising Star Chef of the Year (2013) and a semifinalist in Best Chef: Midwest (2014) from when she was at Sea Change. She is now working to open Brut.

John Kraus of Patisserie 46 is an Outstanding Baker semifinalist (2015).

Jim Christiansen of Heyday is a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2015).

Manny's Steakhouse is an Outstanding Service semifinalist (2012).

Sapor Cafe and Bar is an Outstanding Service semifinalist (2013).

Mike DeCamp of La Belle Vie is a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2013). He is opening a new (and yet unnamed) Italian restaurant in the Hotel Ivy this spring.

Erik Anderson is a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2011) from when he was at Sea Change. He is now working to open Brut.

Tim Fischer is a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2011) from when he was at HoDo Restaurant in Fargo, N.D. He is now at Cosmos.

Vincent Francoual of Vincent is a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist in 2010.

Håkan Lundberg is a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2010) from when he was at Cosmos. He is now at the Minneapolis Club.

Mike Phillips is a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2010) from when he was at the Craftsman. He is now at the Red Table Meat Co.

Scott Pampuch is a Best Chef: Midwest semifinalist (2009) from when he was at Corner Table. He is now at the University of Minnesota.

Khanh Tran is an Outstanding Pastry Chef semifinalist (2009) from when she was at Cosmos. She is now at Bachelor Farmer.

Peter Ireland is a Best Chef: Northeast semifinalist (2008) from when he was at the former Carpenter & Main in Norwich, Vt. Ireland was chef/owner of the former Lynn on Bryant, and is now at Red Table Meat Co.
