Wine: Portuga Vinho Regional Lisboa

WINE

Portuguese vintners have been waging a modern vs. traditional battle for years now. And the winner is … us, because a lot of them end up splitting the difference in wines such as the 2012 Portuga Vinho Regional Lisboa ($10). This red blend (almost all Portuguese reds are blends) nails the yin and yang of ripe fruit and earthy texture, with cherry-berry flavors persisting through the dryish finish. This is one great pizza wine that also should play well with burgers and brats. It’s worth buying by the case, if your grilling season is as long as mine.

Available at all Haskell’s, South Lyndale, Zipp’s, Thomas and the Wine Shop.
