Wine deal: Moulin de Guilhem Gassac Rouge

Wine

Summer reds should be not too heavy but sturdy enough and suitable for being served a bit chilled and with grilled food. The 2012 Moulin de Guilhem Gassac Pays d’Herault Rouge ($11) succeeds on all counts. This syrah/grenache/carignan/mourvedre blend from France’s Languedoc region has some nice New World spice to play with its Old World earthiness. It’s light enough to go with grilled chicken but substantial enough to pair nicely with burgers, brats or pizza.

Available at France 44, Solo Vino, Sunfish, Wine & Spirits at 7 and 41, the Wine Market, Wine Thief and others.
