Hurry: Deadline soon for cookie contest
It couldn’t be easier to enter the 11th annual Taste Holiday Cookie Contest. Just submit your recipe, along with the story that the cookie plays in your holiday baking.
We keep an eye out for original recipes — remember, the goal is to give Taste readers a delicious new way to celebrate the holidays — but we also enjoy recipes from previously published sources that you’ve made your own. We appreciate great stories, too.
Grand prize is a $200 gift card to a local cooking store. Recipes from our winner and finalists will be published in Taste’s annual cookie issue on Dec. 5, and everyone will be invited to display their cookie-baking prowess at a fun, open-to-the-public event at the Mill City Museum in Minneapolis on Dec. 7.
With your recipe and story, be sure to include your name, address, daytime phone number and e-mail address.

Parents: Model good habits
How do you keep children healthy with regard to their weight? Dr. Stephanie Walsh, a pediatrician, medical director for child wellness at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and mother, said, “Success with kids is about behavior. You change your behavior and your weight will find its place.”
Q: What should parents focus on to improve their children’s health?
A: “Focusing on weight doesn’t help children because they are changing, growing and going through puberty. If you focus on weight you’re missing what’s important. Focus on healthy habits,” Walsh said. “Set short-term goals with your kids that are achievable.” Children’s Healthcare suggested four healthy habits:
• Make half your plate veggies and fruits.
• Be active for 60 minutes.
• Drink more water and limit sugary drinks.
• Limit screen time to one hour.
