Bread poem

IT’S THE BREAD

In this workaday world with its ups and its downs,

We’re refreshed by the run, by the loaves richly brown.

Each Saturday morning, with news and good cheer,

We review the week — and rejoice, we’re here!

Rate a movie, our recipe, political points,

Midst laughter and coffee, and some creaking joints.

Books read and now reading, plays seen and unseen,

Grandchildren’s growth, suddenly teens?

In all of the seasons, we’ve been amply fed,

So grateful for friends, family, and the bread!

Jim Patrykus wrote this poem in honor of the runners’ 20th year together.
