Food & Wine gives Five owner top props

Stewart Woodman, chef and co-owner of Five Restaurant & Street Lounge (2917 Bryant Av. S., Minneapolis), will grace the July cover of Food & Wine as one of the magazine's "Best New Chefs." Woodman's is one of 10 faces in the 18th annual feature, which showcases the magazine's picks for up-and-coming culinary talents from coast to coast.
"Food & Wine's Best New Chefs 2006 are testing the boundaries of culinary arts everywhere and succeeding at the highest levels," said editor-in-chief Dana Cowin. "We also continue to find more great chefs outside major cities."
Two other Minnesotans have received the accolade: Seth Bixby Daugherty of Cosmos in 2005 and Tim McKee of La Belle Vie and Solera in 1997 (McKee was running D'Amico Cucina at the time).
Getting punched
Punch Neapolitan Pizza is growing. Its fourth location will open in mid-July at 210 E. Hennepin Av., in the two 19th-century storefronts that were most recently home to defunct Elbow Room and Starlite Lounge. "I love the neighborhood," said co-owner John Soranno. "I go to Kramar-czuk all the time. Probably too much."
The new Punch will mirror its Eden Prairie and south Minneapolis siblings: counter service, beer and wine, lunch and dinner and Neapolitan-style pizzas baked in a wood-burning oven.
Around town
Getting a table at the popular Yum! Kitchen and Bakery (4000 Minnetonka Blvd., St. Louis Park) may get a little easier. Owner Patti Soskin is negotiating to buy an adjacent gas station and convert it to a parking lot. "According to the city ordinance, we need additional parking before we can add more seating," she said. If the purchase goes through, Soskin will add up to 40 more seats.
