FOOD SAFETY

Sweet Celebrations will hold free safe food-handling clinics to teach home cooks and caterers the basics of food sanitation, avoiding cross-contamination and the safe handling of fillings and custards. Chef Richard Forpahl will hold 10-to 15-minute demonstrations from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Burnsville location (14276 Plymouth Av., 952-435-3377) and Tuesday at the Maplewood store (1870 Beam Av., 651-770-8647).

FIERY FOOD

St. Paul fire chief Tim Fuller and famed firehouse cooks will heat up the St. Paul Farmer's Market Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with authentic Mexican food. Free.

FAST & FURIOUS

Learn to make Italian, Mexican, Thai and Singapore noodle dishes -- each with varying degrees of spiciness -- Aug. 8 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Kitchen Window, 3001 Hennepin Av. in Minneapolis. Instructor Robin Asbell will demonstrate a variety of dishes, none of which require an oven. Cost is $55; call 612-824-4417

GO GULFING

Tobie Nidetz will demonstrate the flavors of the Gulf of Mexico's Veracruz Strip, which is influenced by native foods, Spanish cuisine and Caribbean ingredients, Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Cooks of Crocus Hill, 877 Grand Av. in St. Paul. Recipes include Arroz Verde (green rice with poblano, epazote and parsley), Frijoles Negros (black beans with garlic and onion) and a coconut flan. Cost is $55; call 952-285-1903 or 651-228-1333.

THAI

Jasmine Market, 14600 10th Av. S., Suite 100, in Burnsville, will hold a free Thai Tropical Drink Fest Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. with samples of Thai iced tea, coffee, juices, shakes and more. And on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m., learn to make fried wontons with minced pork and stir-fried beef and asparagus. Cost is $39; call 952-953-6424.

BREAKFAST, MON

Join Chris Ray from the San Pedro Cafe for a Caribbean breakfast Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Chef's Gallery, 324 S. Main St. in Stillwater. He'll demonstrate an island breakfast, including gingerbread sweet potato pudding, sea egg creole, Dominican egg breakfast plate, pineapple tart and prickly pear juice.
