It's unusual to see a salon packed with people on a Saturday night. At a benefit fashion show last weekend for the Children's Hospital Association (CHA), St. Paul's 526 Salon Spa Gallery seemed more like a nightclub than a beauty shop.
For the event, gallery director Stephen Trevino brought in an A-team: The event was hosted by Minnesota Public Radio's "Morning Edition" host Cathy Wurzer, who has been getting her hair done there every Friday for 20 years. The self-proclaimed "salon mascot" seemed quite at home on the runway.
Against a backdrop of giant circle paintings by Shannon McElree, the show included fall looks from Karma, Picky Girl, Maggie Dayton and BlackBlue. It was choreographed by Myron Johnson, who also puts together Glamorama (on a slightly larger stage).
With everything from the space to a vast array of appetizers donated, 100 percent of the proceeds were donated to CHA, which has been offering economic assistance for the care and well-being of sick children since 1933. So all of that talent goes to a good cause.
