Now open: Zelaz

Where: Wayzata Bay Shopping Center, 927 E. Lake St., Wayzata, 952-920-1044 and www.zelaz.com.

What: A great store concept can survive a change in location. Zelaz has been nomadic since moving out of Ridgedale, but now has a home at the Wayzata Bay Shopping Center.

Who: Janet Pollach originally opened Zelaz (a variation of her daughter Alex's name spelled backwards) with kiosks at Ridgedale and Eden Prairie, then moved to a storefront at Ridgedale. The store closed, but she stayed involved with the community and stayed in business as an online boutique and pop-up shop. Now you can find Pollach's teen/tween collections and accessories (and signature bright walls) at the new location.

The goods: Pollach, who had trouble finding fun, appropriate clothes for Alex as she transitioned from tween to teen sizes, did something about it. You'll find girls' sizes 8 through 16, juniors sizes 1 through 15 and a few women's sizes. There's a wide selection of apparel that veers toward cool modesty, and service that aims to make everyone feel comfortable.

Sales and events

Happy anniversary to Karma (867 Grand Av., St. Paul, 651-291-1997). Join the celebration with 25 percent off everything in the store on Friday and Saturday. That's a fine way to age well.

La Bratique is taking the bra-fitting show (and the wide selection of lingerie) on the road Saturday to Shorty's Loft (4590 Excelsior Blvd., St. Louis Park, 952-473-0404, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). After you've found the perfect undergarments, you can probably shop for something to wear over them.

On Saturday, stop by A. Michele Boutique (1591 Selby Av., St. Paul, 651-917-6966) and get 15 percent off your purchase, the chance to win a $50 store credit and mimosas.

Just in time for Halloween: The Vintage Clothing, Jewelry and Textile Show and Sale will be held Friday (5 to 10 p.m, $7 admission) and Saturday (10 a.m. to 5 p.m., $5 admission) at the Fine Arts Building of the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. On Friday night, there will also be a fashion parade and cocktail bar. More information at www.catspajamasproductions.net or call 612-208-1085.

Go get that new fall dress today at the Kokoon and Local Motion trunk show. The event is at Prestwick Golf Club (Jason Room, 9555 Wedgewood Dr., Woodbury, noon to 8 p.m., reception at 4 p.m.). Twenty percent of all proceeds benefit the Randy Shaver Cancer Research Fund.

All weekend (11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, next to American Guitar and Band, 13777 Grove Dr. N., Maple Grove), you can shop from an insiders' collection of vintage, designer and contemporary garments, furniture and home décor. Hosted by Stephanie Lake, Susan Lake and Spinario Design & Art Gallery, this event brings out the big names, from Dolce & Gabanna to DKNY.

On Saturday night, go to a party and come home with a one-of-a-kind tee. Anthem Heart (1224 NE. Quincy St., Mpls., second floor) is hosting an event known as "Worn to be Wild!" They'll be live screen-printing tees ($10), where you pick your colors, shirt style and you might even get to squeegee your own tee. If you bring your own shirt, prices start at $5.

Designer Zang Toi has extended his stay in Minnesota into next week. On Oct. 26, he'll be at Nordstrom (Mall of America, 952-883-2121, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) for a trunk show of his spring 2010 collection. Call for an appointment.

On the move

Hot Mama's flagship store is moving and expanding. The new store is just a few doors down from the old location (3914 W 50th St., Edina, 952-746-8255). You'll find more stuff, space and dressing rooms for moms and moms-to-be. To celebrate, get 10 percent off of all purchases today through Oct. 25 at the new location only.
