Is the retail industry on the verge of a mannequin makeover? As part of J.C. Penney Co.’s, attempts to fit its customers’ shapes, sizes and styles, new “real people” mannequins were displayed in the store windows of its Manhattan Mall location recently in New York. The mannequins and the personal stories behind them were originally seen on NBC’s “Today” as part of its “Love Your Selfie” series focusing on body image.

In other big chain news, Forever 21 has opened a concept store in Maple Grove. “F21 Red” debuted at the Shoppes at Arbor Lakes this month. The shop carries select basics that usually can be found at Forever 21, but at even cheaper prices. Camisoles can be found for $1.80, T-shirts for $3.80 and denim for $7.80.
