Six local designers took the drawings of an imaginative boy and turned them into real-life works of art.

The dresses were revealed on the runway recently and are now displayed in the window of Head to Toe Salon at 24th Street and Nicollet Avenue S.

The Louis Bustos Dress Design project is part of Artists in Storefronts, an effort to enliven neglected parts of the Whittier neighborhood in south Minneapolis by filling storefronts (especially those left vacant during the recession) with original artwork.

Five-year-old Louis started dressing up characters while playing video games. His fashion interest quickly transformed on paper: He's created nearly 100 different looks and is now learning to sew.
