The Webster at Target Ruffle-Belted Dress in Palm Print, $42.99; Cap-Toe Wedges, $29.99; Sand Dollar Chandelier Earrings, $12.99.

You'll soon be able to browse boutiques from across the country at Target. The Shops at Target will help the retailer offer local charm to shoppers, while the shop owners gain national name recognition. Launching May 6 and running for six weeks, the first group of shops will feature:

• Candy from the Candy Shop in San Francisco.

• Home and garden accessories from Privet House in Connecticut.

• Dog leashes and treats from Polka Dog Bakery in Boston.

• Clothing and accessories for men, women and children from the Webster in Miami.

• Beauty products from Cos Bar of Aspen, Colo.

The owners behind these new brands were first-time designers who had the chance to "co-create" their debut collections with Target. We spoke to Laure Heriard Dubreuil of the Webster and Lily Garfield of Cos Bar about their Target collections.

Laure Heriard Dubreuil, the Webster

Since 2008, Laure Heriard Dubreuil and Milan Vukmirovic have been bringing a carefully edited selection of high-end designer fashion to Miami Beach.

Q What was your inspiration?

A Sunshine is a good inspiration, also, the tropical aspect and the wallpapers. Throughout the Webster, we have vintage wallpapers everywhere. This dress [pictured] is the perfect example, because it's the mix of the two. The coral, green and navy colors are very Miami. Everything has yellow gold, because I like yellow gold. For men's, we did the same colors and the palm trees and the sand. The belt is a Bohemian look that we love.

Q Where are you from originally?

A I grew up in the southwest of France. I lived in the States for a long time -- four years in Miami, but before that 3 1/2 years in New York.

Q What designers do you look up to?

A Each collection is different, and we buy depending on what designers are doing. But I worked for Balenciaga for a long time, so I'm a Balenciaga lover.

Lily Garfield, Cos Bar

The first Cos Bar opened in 1976 in Aspen as a specialty retailer of beauty products. It now has 12 stores, including one in Edina.

Q How did you approach your Target line?

A We wanted to do something that's more universal, as opposed to targeted to specific needs. We avoided perfumes, we avoided makeup and we avoided skin care.

Q What does that leave?

A It leaves more impulse, such as bath and body, accessories, nails, anything to do with toes -- especially for spring and summer time, when you'll be wearing sandals.

Q Why the emphasis on bath and body?

A You feel good when you come out of the shower. You have that fresh feeling; that's an inner sense of refreshed cleanliness, beauty and confidence. That carries more weight than anything else.

PICK OF THE WEEK:

IRIS APFEL FOR MAC LIPSTICK ($14.50)

If you don't know who Iris Apfel is yet, you will soon. The design icon will be featured in an upcoming documentary about her distinct and highly opinionated sense of style. Her lipsticks are truly splashy in standout brights. They're for those who, like Apfel, refuse to blend into the background.
