The Minnesota History Center isn't normally thought of as risqué.
However, at the St. Paul center's annual RetroRama celebration of all things vintage, the new "Munsingwear: A Brief History of Underwear" exhibit brought undergarments out in the open.
Most guests wore full-coverage vintage 20th-century clothing as they browsed the museum's offerings, decorated spectacles, enjoyed baking and cocktail demonstrations and watched a fashion show featuring local burlesque dancers modeling modern interpretations of vintage foundation garments.
Though the Minneapolis-based Munsingwear started in the 19th century with itchless union suits made from a wool and silk fabric, its product line later shifted to include bullet bras and the flirty Hollywood Vassarette line.
"I would wear a union suit," said an inspired Xavier Matos. "Not in the summer, but in the winter, I'm actually pretty close to it."
Those unmentionables were definitely worth mentioning.
