Sara Beth Goldfine took her jewelry designs to Los Angeles three years ago. Now she's back with a collection that glitters.
Three years ago, Golden Valley native Sara Beth Goldfine moved to Los Angeles to develop her budding jewelry business. Now, her SBG Designs jewelry has been spotted on celebrities, including Brooke Shields and Paris Hilton. They each have her signature piece, the Paisley, which is a multi-strand necklace that can be worn more than 20 different ways.
Goldfine will be doing a trunk show in Minneapolis this weekend. She called from the West Coast with a preview.
Q How did you start?
A I started making jewelry and selling to boutiques to make extra money over the weekends. I'd come home [from the University of Kansas] over the summer and have house shows for friends and family members.
Q What inspires you?
A Both the materials and fashion. For example, I have a shorter dress that's plain. I wanted a longer necklace that made more of a statement. That inspired me to create a necklace that was featured in Life & Style.
Q What's a good piece for the holidays?
A I have ultrafaceted sterling silver beads -- they're so sparkly they look like diamonds. I have earrings with these stones that are really light. That's important -- lots of people don't wear jewelry because it's too heavy in your ears or neck. There are fun, sparkly pieces for the holidays to brighten up your outfit.
Q Which celebrities wear your jewelry?
A When I moved here, Samantha Harris, who is from Minnesota, was so helpful. She started wearing my jewelry on E! and so did Giuliana dePandi. I have also met Brooke Shields and Paris Hilton.
Q Any celebrity you really want to wear your jewelry?
A I keep running into Marcia Cross. I've literally run into her four times in the past six months. One of these days, I just need to open my mouth and introduce myself to her.
Q What do you like to do in Minnesota?
A I love shopping in Minneapolis because: A) Everyone is so much nicer. B) There' s no sales tax and C) It's so convenient to run errands. You can go from 50th and France to Ridgedale to Southdale to Galleria. In Los Angeles, it takes all day to go to the bank. The traffic, ugh.
