For 'The Birds': Variety says Naomi Watts will star in a remake of the Alfred Hitchcock classic starring Rod Taylor and Tippi Hedren. The remake will be directed by Martin Campbell. The 1963 film had its roots in the relation between mind, body, other bodies (society) and beasts (nature). The tension may be different in the remake with its computer-generated birds.

Ailing: Porter Wagoner has lung cancer and is hospitalized in serious condition in Nashville, Tenn., a publicist said. The 80-year-old singer known for his rhinestone stage outfits helped launch the career of Dolly Parton by hiring her as his duet partner in 1967. Parton visited Wagoner in the hospital last week and pledged to sing with him again, the Opry said.
