HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MILL CITY Museum!

It's been 10 years since the Mill City Museum opened as a Minnesota Historical Society site, and it is celebrating with a party to which everyone is invited. On the National Register of Historic Places since 1971, the museum was built from the burned-out remains of the Washburn A Mill on the Minneapolis riverfront. Free admission is available the entire weekend. Saturday's programs include cooking demonstrations, music by Salsa del Soul and sketch comedy by Joseph Scrimsaw and Tim Uren. Sunday activities include making a paper model boxcar, a canning demonstration and performances by Z Puppets Rosenschnoz and the 1920s-style Washburn Crosby Concert Band. (10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sat.; noon-5 p.m. next Sun. Free. 704 S. 2nd St., Mpls. www.millcitymuseum.org.)

WILD RICE FESTIVAL

This festival proves that wild rice isn't just a Sunday night dinner side — it can be put in pancakes, too. Enjoy a stack before participating in activities, including harvesting demonstrations and crafts. Children may listen to storytelling, play games and engage in other activities, such as hands-on apple cider pressing. Also see Indian dance and drum performances. (8 a.m.-4 p.m. Sat. Harriet Alexander Nature Center, 2520 N. Dale St., Roseville. www.ci.roseville.mn.us.)
