Five couples went to new heights Tuesday at the Mall of America in celebration of Valentine's Day, taking their wedding vows simultaneously on the Ferris wheel.
With a representative of the mall's Chapel of Love officiating, the 10 were married while the seven-story ride was stopped at the Nickelodeon Universe amusement park. Then it was a few loops around for the newlyweds.
Bride and groom Kelsey and Scott Cook, of New Prague, stretched the nontraditional envelope even further, wearing cowboy hats and boots, blue jeans and Western shirts.
"That was awesome," Kelsey Cook, 19, said. "I had a veil on my cowboy hat."
Kelsey Cook said she is a big fan of Ferris wheels and had been "begging Scott forever" to go on the ride with her.
Scott Cook, 24, relented. Among the witnesses was their 10-month-old son, Lane.
"This was the first time Scott ever went on with me," she said. "I told him that next year on our anniversary, he needs to go on the roller coaster."
The ceremony not only came on Valentine's Day, but this is also National Weddings Month, National Ferris Wheel Day and Love Makes the World Go Around Week.
To note the occasion, the park offered couples free Ferris wheel rides all day Tuesday.
